While presenting the 1975 Country Music Awards Entertainer of the Year, country musician Charlie Rich famously set fire to the envelope with the winner, John Denver.

Tom Petty dropped out of high school to join a band, Mudcrutch, at 17 years old. While the band didn’t last long enough to release a record, some of its members formed Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
