The Rolling Stones’ sax player Bobby Keys, Outlaw Country legend Waylon Jennings, and Rock & Roll originator Buddy Holly all lived in the same neighborhood in Lubbock, Texas & were friends before each was famous. Jennings & Keys both played with Holly’s backing band The Crickets (though Keys did after Holly’s death).

While Waylon Jennings was recording his album “I’ve Always Been Crazy” in 1977, federal agents stormed the recording studio trying to bust Jennings for drugs, which they didn’t find. He was inspired to write “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand?” after the experience.

Waylon Jennings covered Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman” on the 1978 duet album “Waylon & Willie”.

Waylon Jennings started his musical touring career as one of Buddy Holly’s backing band, The Crickets.

Nineteen years after Buddy Holly died, Waylon Jennings got back together with his former The Crickets bandmates for a mashup of four Holly songs in a row on his hit 1978 solo album “I’ve Always Been Crazy”.

“Wanted: The Outlaws” with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Jessi Colter and Tom Glaser was the first Nashville album certified platinum by the RIAA when the organization introduced that award in 1976.

Not only did Waylon Jennings sing the iconic theme song “Good Ol’ Boys” for The Dukes of Hazzard, he was also the original narrator of the show, and even appeared on camera once.
