The Beatles’ original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe left the band shortly before they became famous to pursue painting full-time in Hamburg, where he unexpectedly died of a brain hemorrhage at just 21. The Beatles included a photo of him on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Slim Harpo's 1957 classic "King Bee" gave Excello, founded that year, it's trademark swamp blues sound and inspired a thousand artists, from Muddy Waters to The Rolling Stones.

That swampy rhythm and blues that came out of Nashville-based Excello Records would be carried on by immortal greats like Lonnie Brooks, Slim Harpo, Lazy Lester and Lightnin' Slim. Even MLK recorded at Excello. By 1975, Excello could no longer compete, and closed it's doors forever.
