Jamaican Reggae & Ska developed as a result of American record labels dumping overstock 50s & 60s Rhythm & Blues albums onto the island — and because Jamaicans with newly available radios could pick up stations in New Orleans & Florida.

Chas Chandler, a founding member of The Animals, also discovered Jimi Hendrix — changing his name from Jimmy to Jimi, staking his first single “Hey Joe”, and acting as Hendrix’s manager until production of the Electric Ladyland album.
