John Coltrane began recording “Giant Steps” just two weeks after playing the second/final session for Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue”

The Beatles’ original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe left the band shortly before they became famous to pursue painting full-time in Hamburg, where he unexpectedly died of a brain hemorrhage at just 21. The Beatles included a photo of him on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
