The father of blues-based proto-soul powerhouse Shuggie Otis was famed big band leader Johnny Otis. Shuggie’s children are also musicians.

The vocals for Bad Brains’ song “Sacred Love” on their influential 1986 album “I Against I” had to be recorded by vocalist H.R. through a prison phone, where he was serving time for marijuana.
