The Meters 1974 song “Africa” from the masterful album “Rejuvenation” was covered by The Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1985 for their album “Freaky Styley”.

Tom Petty dropped out of high school to join a band, Mudcrutch, at 17 years old. While the band didn’t last long enough to release a record, some of its members formed Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
