The Beastie Boys used jazz man Jimmy Smith’s 1972 classic “Root Down (And Get It)” as the foundation for their own song (and the title of their album), 1995’s “Root Down”.

While Waylon Jennings was recording his album “I’ve Always Been Crazy” in 1977, federal agents stormed the recording studio trying to bust Jennings for drugs, which they didn’t find. He was inspired to write “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand?” after the experience.
