Opening for Steve Martin at the Universal Amphitheater on September 9, 1978, The Blues Brothers surprised the crowd with a lightning-bolt soul revue featuring Stax’s own Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn. The performance was released as Briefcase Full of Blues, which hit #1 & went double-platinum, leading to the Blues Brothers movie.

While Waylon Jennings was recording his album “I’ve Always Been Crazy” in 1977, federal agents stormed the recording studio trying to bust Jennings for drugs, which they didn’t find. He was inspired to write “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand?” after the experience.
