Sugarhill Gang’s famous early rap track “The Edge” was highly influential to Genesis drummer/lead singer Phil Collins & producer Hugh Padgham, who modeled the hook of the band’s 1983 hit single “Mama” after the song.

While Waylon Jennings was recording his album “I’ve Always Been Crazy” in 1977, federal agents stormed the recording studio trying to bust Jennings for drugs, which they didn’t find. He was inspired to write “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand?” after the experience.
